I just installed a 20 gig HD in my Xbox today and it shows that the total memory is 14 gigs and available is 9.9 gigs..Is this normal??
If the HDD was used by somebody else, it probably has their profiles/games/downloads still stored on it. If you go to the settings tab in your Dashboard, you can go down to memory, select the HDD and format it and see if that helps you out.hard drive..
but it will delete all the demo games and everything else that's stored..aint it??
did you by a new or a old one
a new one..as told by the retailer..
Its normal, don't worry about it. Just delete as much as you can that you dont need.
Their is probably a bunch of videos on it for commercial use put there by Microsoft delete them and your space will most likely increase some.
I did that and it says I have total 14 gigs..:(
I did that and it says I have total 14 gigs..:(
That is normal. No worries.
lol..thanks..but where is the remaining 6 gigs??
It is normal, MS puts demo's, adverts, etc on there. I bought mine new and it had 13.8GB of free space.
lol..thanks..but where is the remaining 6 gigs??
I could be wrong but I think the remaining 6 are system files you need for the HDD

lol..thanks..but where is the remaining 6 gigs??
I could be wrong but I think the remaining 6 are system files you need for the HDD
Yup that's it. Same with PC harddrives.
I think I got cheated..coz as soon as I turned on my console after installing the Hard Drive..my dashboard said. 'found new profile'..the profile name was 'N' and it was showing as 'halo 3' played on it with 0 achievements..is it normal for a new HD to have an existing profile??
No that is not. I dont know whether it is worth it to send it back, but you should really request a refund then get the 60 gig if you want more space.
I think I will ask for a 20 Gig replacement HD or a refund..I'm sure a new HD doesn't have an existing profile..
I think I will ask for a 20 Gig replacement HD or a refund..I'm sure a new HD doesn't have an existing profile..
You are correctThat one you have there is usedIt will be smaller once it's in use. Formatting a drive will make it smaller.
Where did you buy the HD from
In India, after trying at 20 microsoft shops..no one has it..got it from a retailer who sells all gaming products..
A brand new 20 gig hdd is only gonna have like 14 gigs, period. New or used. The remaining are for the system. Period. Keep it and don't waste your time.
